I am what is called a merchant marine. I work as a third assistant engineer on merchant vessels. Currently my employer is Maersk Lines Limited. I am actually at sea right now and rocking gently back and forth. Can't you feel it? I get to travel around the world and see some sights. This ship doesn't really go anywhere but stays at sea.
If you have a son who is in the Navy or just got out, you can tell him that he can sail on commercial ships and make a good deal of money. He or she will need to see the coast guard for information. Or there is always Military Sealift Command who will hire folks to work and get their sea time.
